about the book
What do animal kids have in common with human kids? They all face challenges as they grow up in their families. Child of the Wild is the first in a fully illustrated series that uses family portraits and rhyming text to peek into the lives of 10 wild families. This fun learning experience aims to share knowledge, ignite imaginations and build curiosity in readers age 8 and up, while also entertaining parents, grandparents, younger siblings, sitters and anyone else within earshot.

about the author
Jonathan’s first adult experience making art was a workshop on drawing pencil portraits. Ten years later, he is still doing portraits — human, animal pets and wildlife — having traded lead pencils for the subtle colors of pastels. During the isolation of COVID, Jonathan took comfort in sketching animal family portraits. As that portfolio grew in recent years, it morphed into the children’s book series Child of the Wild: Animal Families in Portraits and Poems. In winter he sketches in Sarasota, Florida. During the warmer months he and his easel reside in the woods of Westminster, Vermont.
